Landfill with old fine furniture
The Fairy Tail of the Landfill Secrets

Secrets of the Landfill

Far, far away was a city and outside the city was a dilapidated landfill. The landfill had not been used for many, many years because a new and modern recycling site had been built closer to the city. No one wanted to clean up the old landfill, so everything remained as it had been for many, many years. The dump was still full of old furniture left behind by people who no longer needed it.

When night fell and the moon was high in the sky, you could hear sounds from the landfill. It was as if the old furniture came alive and began to rattle and creak. Sometimes you could hear a drawer slide out of an old chest of drawers, and other times you could hear an old chair creak and creak as if it was about to fall apart.

People said that the dump was haunted by the spirits of the old furniture that had been left there forever. The old furniture stood like an army of ghosts waiting to attack the unsuspecting travelers who got too close. Every now and then, however, there were some people who ventured in there, and then there was some furniture that disappeared with them - and they never came back.

A small white chest of drawers with fine handles on its two drawers was also there in the dump. The chest of drawers was very sad about its fate, and it felt dejected and forgotten among the other furniture. There were chairs, tables, old cupboards and bookcases - all furniture that no one wanted to own anymore. Their fate was to be destroyed and burned, and it was a cruel fate for furniture that had once been beautiful and proud. But no one had the imagination to make them look good again, and everyone would rather have new and modern furniture made of plastic and veneer.

While the chest of drawers was lying in the pile of furniture, sad and dejected, a car with a trailer stopped right outside the chest of drawers. Suddenly the chest of drawers was lifted high into the air and with a bump, set down on the trailer. Off, off, off the dresser ached as thick ropes were tied around the dresser and attached to the trailer. Then the car started and the trailer bumbled off, so the chest of drawers thought it would rattle apart.

Finally the car stopped and the tight ropes were loosened and taken off. The dresser could breathe a sigh of relief, but it didn't know what was going to happen now. In its old room it had had many good friends, like the bed that creaked at night, the old blue rocking chair with the flowered silk pillow, the fine dressing table with the glittering perfume bottles and the good old men's closet, which always had a new importance to tell.

Before the chest of drawers could dwell too long on its old memories, it was again lifted into the air and carried up a flight of stairs. On the landing a door was opened and the chest of drawers was carefully set down, moved slightly to one side and then left there.

It was completely quiet in the room, but birds chirping could be heard from an open window. The dresser looked around. WOW, it thought, it's absolutely magical here. The room was like something out of a fairy tale. It was large and airy with high ceilings and large, barred windows that were open and let the sun's rays make patterns on the floor. Fluffy white curtains danced like elves, light and elegant in soft waves every time a little breeze hit them.

The small chest of drawers was located right next to one of the large windows. "Oh, it's nice to be here by the window and see life out there," thought the dresser. Its thoughts drifted away dreamily, but were abruptly interrupted when a swarm of butterflies flew in through the window. The butterflies were so beautiful that it was almost hard to believe they were real. Their wings were covered in fine patterns and details, and they flew around the dresser as if they were looking for something special. The room was miraculously filled with a gentle scent of flowers and the it was clear that something magical was happening.

A gentle breeze briefly caused the curtains to lift high into the room, and a rain of small turquoise colored drops and the most beautiful flowers flew in through the window and fell on the chest of drawers. When the dresser looked down at itself, it saw that it was no longer white. It was now clothed in a turquoise color, a color as beautiful as the clearest sea. The drawers were no longer dull white, but also turquoise and covered in beautiful, fragrant flowers. The sun's rays shone in through the window and hit the chest of drawers, and the turquoise color began to sparkle and shine like a diamond. It seemed as if it drew the light to itself.

The butterflies fluttered around the dresser in small circles and then landed on the dresser's drawers. They started drinking nectar from the flowers and flew from flower to flower. At the window there was a hum and a bee appeared. The bee's wings were clear as crystal and it flew very purposefully and landed on the chest of drawers. The bee also flew from flower to flower gathering nectar while humming a little tune. The chest of drawers was now full of life and colour, and had been transformed into a beautiful and magical treasure.

The old chest of drawers had now been given new life and meaning as a unique and beautiful piece of furniture that would bring joy and adventure into every room. And there it stood, shining like a jewel in the sunlight, for many, many years. The commode was happy and amused by life, which it could follow from the window. It saw children playing and running around the garden, and it saw the sun rising and setting every day. It saw the flowers bloom and wither, and it saw the seasons change. The chest of drawers was now part of life and nature, and it felt so alive and full of energy. Even when it got dark and the stars lit up in the sky, the chest of drawers could still keep up with life outside. It saw fireworks lighting up the sky and it heard music filling the air.

The dresser often thought of his friends in the dump and wished that they too would get a second chance and a new life. The dresser now knew that there was magic in the world and that anything could happen. So it hoped that one day the old furniture in the landfill would also be transformed and given a new adventurous destiny.

Snap, snap muzzle - and the story of the forgotten jewel is out.
