Zinnia

Flower bed of Ladybug, Zinnia and Moroccan Cod's mouth
Zinnia here planted in a large group together with Moroccan Torskemund

Zinnia Elegans, is the uncrowned queen of the cutting garden with large, perfect, brightly colored flowers in a classic shape and with incredible durability. The same flower can easily stand beautifully for three weeks in the bed. Zennia also lasts a long time in the vase, 1-2 weeks is not abnormal at all.

Zinnia or Frøkenhat (Miss Hat), as we call it at home, is a fantastic summer flower with many good properties. It is easy to germinate in March - April or can be sown directly in open ground, it has large pom pom flowers in a multitude of beautiful colours, it is fantastic as a cut flower and it attracts bees, butterflies and many other insects that love its nectar .

Zennia is the perfect choice for the cutting garden, as the flowers sit on long stiff stems and the flowers are very durable in bouquets. The more flowers you pick, the more new flowers you get. Zennia is frugal and looks great in pots on the terrace or planted in large groups in the bed.

Zinnia is an annual plant that prefers to grow from seed as they do not like to be divided. They prefer full sunlight and sufficient water, and in these conditions they will grow quickly and flower until the first frost of autumn.

The varieties that I have planted this year are called Zinnia Lilleput, which grows 40 cm high and Zinnia Elegans, which grows 80 cm high. It takes 5-15 days for the first sprouts to appear, so you don't have to wait long to see results.

Zinnia is a perfect cut flower and the more flowers you cut, the more there will be.

Zinnia is a genus of plants of the tribe Heliantheae within the family Asteraceae. They are native to scrub and dry grasslands in an area extending from the southwestern United States to South America, and are especially diverse in Mexico. The plant is named after the German botanist Johann Gottfried Zinn (1727 – 1759).

The petals of the Zinnia plant can have different shapes, they can sit in single rows with a visible center (single-flowered Zinnia), they can sit in numerous rows with a center that is not visible (double-flowered) and have petals that are somewhere in between with numerous rows but visible centers (semi) double flowering Zinnia). The flowers can also have several shapes.

Enjoy your Zennia flowers all summer long.
